The spectacular expansion of the U.S. Capitol building, encompassing 580,000 square feet underground, welcomed two million visitors during its first 9 months. A modern, climate-controlled, secure facility showcases the history of Congress and the Capitol in a dramatic Exhibit Hall tracing the history of the United States from the formation of Congress to on-the-spot viewing of Congress in action. Interactive, engaging, surprising, awe-inspiring and informative displays, films, and knowledgable guides ensure a personalized experience for every visitor.

Each of the two gift shops has its own unique design and atmosphere while offering the same merchandise to facilitate crowd control and the sometimes limited shopping time allotted to tour groups. Custom products in all categories-- home decor, jewelry, apparel, personal accessories, souvenir designs-- are inspired by the art and architecture of the Capitol and its decoration of frescoes, statues, sculpture, tilework, and more.
