Education Meets Marketing and Brand Management
In response to requests for customized marketing and educational programs for museums, cultural institutions, non-profits, and other organizations, I define and develop concepts relating to museums' permanent collections and temporary or travelling exhibits while ensuring an educational and entertaining learning experience for the visitor. I specialize in education-based custom product development, marketing and licensing, product line extension, and brand management. I am experienced with not-for-profits and their boards, government agencies, diplomatic, and international clients. My forte is developing intangible concepts into successful products and programs and in bringing innovative solutions to marketing challenges. My designs have produced long-term licensing and royalty income for clients, remaining in a vendor's product line for years after an exclusive introduction period. I have created merchandising revenue and/or marketing results for Theatre Company of Boston, Boston Society of Architects, Boston MusicaViva, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Proper Mail Order, Bashi Bushongo Imports, University Museum of Cincinnati, State Historical Museum (Moscow), The Newseum (VA), Int'l Museum of Cartoon Art (FL), U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation (DC), Marine Corps Museum (DC), Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (VA), Benedictinus2000 (Rome), Jubilee Music (US-Europe), the National Museum of the Marine Corps, and The U. S. Capitol Visitor Center, among others. Educational programming, special events, publications, and collateral materials all contribute to the enhancement of the organization's brand through public outreach.
What is Possible?
For Museums: International product sourcing, product and package design, production supervision, marketing and merchandising for all categories. I research and work with curators to ensure the highest level of quality and relatedness for all products. Written collateral materials (hang tags, shelf talkers) provide another level of educational relevance and UBIT compliance. Products are designed and developed with the intention of sell-through for the duration of an exhibition. In the case of permanent collections, licensing options are explored to provide a consistant stream of revenue. The objective is to create a merchandising concept that engages and enhances the visitor's experience as well as providing an educational product assortment. I utilise an international network of suppliers, including craftspeople, artists and artisans, workshops and standard manufacturers, to source and produce products for every kind of sales environment. My relationships with selected vendors allow for fast-track delivery when necessary. I am constantly visiting museums, galleries, shops, cultural attractions, and entertainment venues all over the globe to refresh my eye and sensibilities and to maintain an up-to-the-minute awareness of trends in the marketplace. For Cultural Heritage Organizations: Management and marketing including public relations and publicity, event management, press and media liaison, international tour planning and logistics experience in the UK (England and Wales), Western Europe (France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland), Eastern Europe (Prague, Budapest, Latvia, Estonia, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tbilisi Georgia). Venue negotiation; local publicity, promotion and public relations; arrange for diplomatic contacts and receptions.
